Keelektronegatifan adalah suatu bilangan yang menggambarkan kecenderungan relatif dari suatu unsur dalam menarik elektron ke pihaknya dalam suatu ikatan kimia.

Berdasarkan pada uraian diatas, maka kita coba analisis kekuatan ikatan ionik pada senyawa ion yang terdapat pada soal berdasarkan pada perbedaan nilai keelektronegatifannya.

Nilai keelektronegatifan dapat dilihat pada tabel keelektronegatifan unsur-unsur.

Adapun nilai keelektronegatifan unsur berdasarkan tabel yaitu:

Na = 0,9

Cl = 3

Br = 2,8

K = 0,8

F = 4

maka:

Selisih keelektronegatifan dalam senyawa:

NaCl = 3 - 0,9 = 2,1

NaBr = 2,8 - 0,9 = 1,9

KCl = 3 - 0,8 = 2,2

KF = 4 - 0,8 = 3,2

KBr = 2,8 - 0,8 = 2

Jadi berdasarkan selisih keelektronegatifan maka dapat diurutkan sebagai berikut:

KF > KCl > NaCl > KBr > NaBr

Jadi ikatan ion paling kuat terdapat dalam senyawa KF
